LEARNING DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH

1 October 2026

LEARNING DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH

Before anyone else, there were Abang & Adik. Abang, 18, ASD. Adik, 10, ADHD. Long before I started teaching other children with different learning needs, I was already learning how to teach my own boys. They taught me that sometimes, the way a child learns matters more than how fast they learn. That forcing a child to follow our way doesn't always work. Sometimes, we are the ones who need to find a way into their world first. And somehow, that became the reason other parents started trusting me with their children too. The trust didn't come because I claimed to be an expert. It came from watching how I teach Abang and Adik. How I adjust, repeat, simplify, wait, regulate, and try again differently when I need to. From two children of my own, my little learning space slowly became a place for many different learners. So when October comes around and we talk about Learning Disabilities Awareness Month, this one feels a little more personal to me. Because before I became a tutor, I am a mother with 2 special needs children.
